Another fantastic example of how to properly fuse electronic production and hip-hop, we see a paring of two really talented artists in the clever wordplay of common and the distinctive sounds of Break Science. As Pretty Lights Music (the label) garners more notoriety in the electronic scene and in the music world in general, I hope we can expect to see more actual (this is just Break Science remixing Common’s track) parings of talented producers and lyricists with something to say.

Glitch: “Derezzed” by The Glitch Mob
Off of the highly anticipated Tron: R3CONFIGUR3D (Daft Punk) remix album that dropped back in April, this is easily my favorite track off of the album, and even thought I say highly anticipated, I’m going to be honest: most of the album was a disappointment for me, but maybe that’s because I had such high hopes. At least half the songs were quality tracks however, and this remix clearly shows how to do it right.
Let me first off just say that I apologize for the new format that I will have to be using until YouTube solves an issue: it seems you can no longer embed the “play bar” from YouTube videos without decreasing the quality to 240p, which to be honest, sounds terrible. So until this issue is resolved I’ll be posting videos in the above format: it looks goofy, but it gets the job done. Hope you had a good weekend and here is the free download!
Dubstep: “Firing” by Vexare
Vexare is quite a talented producer for his young age, and he brings a youthful element into his music while still being able to put together the melodies of a veteran producer. He seems to be improving with every track, so it will be exciting to hear more from this young upstart in the dubstep world in the future.

One thing that I’ve noticed about many of the music blogs that I follow is that they rarely delve into any issues surrounding the music itself. Not that this is a bad thing: we are of course all here because of the music, but in an effort to add a bit more substance to this blog I wanted to start a collection of longer articles where I bring up some issues surrounding music, specifically the electronic genre, in order to spark a discussion about this music that we all enjoy.
In this first post I wanted to ask this: Do you think that the “mainstream” will ever accept electronic songs that do not contain lyrics?
Recently signed to the Pretty Lights Music label, Paper Diamond has shown himself to be of great talent, and he will most likely only get better now that he is under the wing of such a talented group, which includes Pretty Lights (Derek) himself, Michal Menert, and Break Science. As shown by his remix and his latest album effort, we can definitely expect more greatness from Paper Diamond in the not so distant future.
Hip-Hop: “Room To Breathe” by Aer
I decided to do something a little different for this post, as I’ve always loved hip-hop music and I feel like electronic and hip-hop are merging well as of late, with a lot of great electronic vibes being shown in the production of many quality hip-hop tracks. So I decided to start a new category simply called “Hip-Hop” which will cover rap tracks that showcase this electronic production style, and have the same profound lyricism we’ve come to expect from talented hip-hop artists.
Dubstep: “Wraith” by Torus
Um, wow. I hope you are ready to listen to something heavy, as this track [insert generic YouTube comment on how dirty it is]. Seriously though, I am typically much more fond of the soulful electronic/electro scene, and usually like my dubstep with more focus on melody, but this monster of a track is dropping soon and is definitely a head banger, so I’d thought I’d share.
New release from the Colorado crew, loving the same and the overall melody of the track, but I will say that I am hoping that Big Gigantic steers clear from too many “wobbles” for their next album release, because their distinct jazz/electro sound keeps them standing out from the crowd.
I do my best to try to update on only stuff I haven’t seen posted much before, and this one definitely fits the bill, as I have not seen this covered anywhere as of yet. A dubstep remix of ‘The Final Countdown’ as performed by Beats Antique, this track definitely rocks out in an unusual way. Since they released it for free, there is also a free download right below this post, check it out!
