Electronic: “Shake It Out (The Weeknd Remix)” by Florence & The Machine

The Weeknd Live in Concert in London, Ontario

I know, I know, I’m like 3 weeks late on this (released late September). But you know what, this song is just too strangely awesome not to post, and some people might have missed it. This track is practically surreal, so weird yet so enjoyable, definitely one of those few that you really remember, if nothing more than for being so unique.

Electronic: “Thrust” by Virtual Boy

Retro game store

Wow, loving this track by Virtual Boy. They definitely bring a glitch & 8-bit mix to a very original composition, you really don’t know what to expect as the track progresses. Sure, it doesn’t have that “catchy” aspect of some songs, but the quality and originality make up for it, and those organs… nice. Show Virtual Boy some love on Facebook!

Electronic: “Electric Smile” by Paper Diamond

Underrated track release a bit ago on the Snowball Mixtape. The build is definitely in Paper Diamond’s traditional style, which has become a bit different as of late. It is a playful mix of synth and drums, and speeds up to almost dance track levels, while keeping that electro feel. It’s cool, it’s free, so enjoy.

Electronic: “Smitten Seeker” by R/D

Enjoy this? Preview ‘Liquid Heart Keeper’ in full on YouTube.

Off of R/D’s excellent “Liquid Heart Keeper” album, this is one of my favorites. With that distinct warm synth found in many of R/D’s tracks, such as his ‘Wilhelm Scream Remix’ and his ‘Give Up The Ghost Remix’, R/D is able to stick to a very distinct sound that is undeniably his, while not being boring or repetitive (in this humble guy’s opinion). Listen and enjoy, and grab the download!

Electronic: “Spin Around, Go Ahead” by Teen Daze

paint chip cherries

A pretty weird track, but definitely quite satisfying. I enjoyed the build at the beginning, and by the middle, you’ll know you are definitely listening to something unique. Definitely show some love to Teen Daze, an up-and-comer to keep your eyes on, for sure!

Electronic: “Guitar Madness” by Gramatik

I usually love the incorporation of instrumental sounds into electronic tracks, in fact I wish more electro artists would include the piano, it seems to get abused in house music but isn’t used enough in slower tracks. Gramatik brings the soul with guitar on this track though, another track this week that reminds me of Ronald Jenkees (maybe that’s just because I love his music, ha!). Definitely smooth and mellow, Gramatik is no stranger to adding some real depth to his music.

Electronic: “Maps” by Emancipator

Temple of Bacchus

Somewhat old, but that doesn’t stop it from being good. With a nice piano melody and guitar riffs remiscient of Ronald Jenkees, this track is definitely a favorite of many, including me. Mellow without being boring, and definitely filled with a lot of soul, overall a solid track.

Dubstep: “Yo! Ho! And A Bottle Of Bass” by Omnitica

Pirate Flag

Ahoy! Ignoring my corny intro, this song is definitely a treasure… (sound of crickets chirping). Omnitica has put together a seriously original and endearing track that features everything from strings to a grimey synth bassline, it’s a fresh take on a genre that can be very cookie cutter. Excellent track, can’t wait to hear more like this!

Dubstep: “Da Funk (Schoolboy Dubstep Remix)” by Daft Punk

Daft Punk

I know without a doubt that this post is going to be love/hate for most people, and that’s mostly going to be due to the original artist of the track. That’s okay, sometimes I like posting stuff just for controversies sake ;). But seriously though, it’s hard to do a dubstep take on a classic track, and I happen to enjoy the places this track went.
