Electronic: “So Much For Love” by Gramatik

Gramatik

It seems that yet another talented artist has been signed to Pretty Lights Music. He goes by the stage name of Gramatik and as can be seen by this free track released for his upcoming album, he has some serious talent. This debut has a funk infused electronic sound akin to all of the members on the now established label, and being surrounded by such talent can only be a good thing for Gramatik’s future.

Glitch: “Lollipop Remix” by The Glitch Mob

Halloween @ The Fillmore

Definitely one of the funnest remixes from the talented LA based trio, and probably one of my all time favorites. Also one of the tracks I usually use to introduce people to electronic music, as it is simply a banging remix of a song most people will recognize, and serves as a good example of what talented producers like edIT, Boreta, and Ooah are capable of.

The 10 Greatest Video Game Remixes Of All Time

Video game music is an unfortunately overlooked realm of music, given that most of it’s audience are gamers who encounter the music through the games in which it is featured.

To me this is a shame, because I believe video game music to contain some of the most unique and memorable tunes out there.

This is a top 10 collection of some of the best offerings from OCRemix.

Glitch: “Crush Mode Mixtape” by The Glitch Mob

All the way back from ’09 The Glitch Mob was have been making monster mixtapes, and this one is definitely the cream of the crop. Over 40 minutes of tracks from each member, which at the time included edIT, Boreta, Ooah, and Kraddy, the “Crush Mode” mixtape is one of the albums that stays true to the “glitch” style of the Glitch Mob, as the group has seemingly moved to a different sound in their latest Drink The Sea album.

Electronic: “Finally Moving” by Pretty Lights

Pretty Lights @ the AMP

This post is practically a necessity for a blog about electronic music, an absolute beauty of a track by Pretty Lights, and arguably one of his many great songs that put him on the map. Fun fact: the song samples Judy Clay and William Bell’s “Private Number”, definitely a PL style to implement an older track and make it into a modern electronic classic. This is probably a song that gets a lot of newcomers into the genre if I had to guess, and as usual you can now grab it for a free DL (thanks to Pretty Lights and his giving away of his awesome music).

Electronic: “Drift Away” by Pretty Lights

Pretty Lights Photo by Mike Hardaker Red Rocks Amphitheatre

In my opinion, this might be the most overlooked/underrated Pretty Lights song out there, as I think that the sound here is akin to his earlier soulful works, but still has the upbeat tempo that is more often found in his newer productions. Off of the Glowing In The Darkest Night EP, I feel that this song puts to rest any claims that might be made about PL’s inability to put out great tracks that have feeling, despite his recent catering to the concert crowd, PL still delivers on his more ambitious album tracks.

Electronic: “Beyond Right Now (Remix)” by Ronald Jenkees

Papa Roach Sessions

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from the great Ronald Jenkees, who seemingly dominated the YouTube scene and then left, never to be heard from again. But there seems to be hope as he has released preview tracks of his impending next album on SoundCloud. In the meanwhile, you’ll have to ease the wait with great remixes like this from the Peaceblaster mega album.

Electronic: “Fratres for Piano and Violin” by Beats Antique

Beats Antique always seems to go out of their way to make something unique, so when the Trunk Archives came out, I knew to expect something totally out there. Labeled as an album with some of their more experimental works that didn’t quite fit on their other full albums, The Trunk Archives is a collection of Beats Antiques most unique works, and an excellent EP in its own right. This is one of my favorites off of this EP, a brilliant mix of violin and electronic.

Electronic: “Sunny Day” by DJ Siako

art is my hustle

Our first featured submission, and I”ll just say I’m glad we started off on the right foot with this one. “Sunny Day” features a really unique funk/electronic sound that just emits a good vibe and makes it hard not to be in a good mood. DJ Siako contacted me about maybe making a submission, and I’m really glad I check out his SoundCloud, and I think you will be too.

Electronic: “Fluorescence” by MiMOSA

58 Degrees was somewhat of a departure for Tigran Mimosa, the style on the album was not radically different in my opinion, but overall it definitely had a distinct feel. One of my favorite tracks from the EP was “Flourescence”, which is the song featured above, it has some haunting melodies tied in with a catchy “wobble”, and I guarantee that after a few listens you’ll be stuck humming it to yourself.
