Dubstep: “I’m On One (Remix)” by KillaGraham

Drake

I went over how dubstep can be a tough genre to succeed/stand out in, and I’d have to add that it is even more difficult with a hip-hop mashup, as everyone seems to do them and sometimes they come out… well, shitty. This however, succeeds in what it sets out to accomplish, which is being an easy to jam to party mix of a popular track, so I’m glad to feature it here and hope to hear more good stuff by the artist, KillaGraham.

Dubstep: “Get Em High” by Big Gigantic

Dom & Jerm

Been waiting for a new Big Gigantic track to drop, I always, always look forward to Dom’s stuff, one of the most talented up and coming talents in the genre, bar none. This song is no disappointment: catchy, upbeat, perfect release for summer really, props to Dom for this track, and I’m anxiously waiting for the 320 download.

Above are a few sample songs from the debut album from Aer, entitled ‘The Reach’, and the duo seems to be capable of putting out outstanding material already, as this is one of the catchiest hip-hop releases this year, bar none. Electronic/Hip-Hop: “Empire State of Mind” by Pretty Lights

I would definitely call this one of Pretty Light’s most “debated” tracks ever released. The debate arises over using the Notorious BIG in a remix, people are always sensitive when Biggie is involved, as his music is important to a lot of people. Me? I think this song does a very talented MC justice, and you have to give PL credit for bringing a very enjoyable vibe.

Glitch: “Lollipop Remix” by The Glitch Mob

Halloween @ The Fillmore

Definitely one of the funnest remixes from the talented LA based trio, and probably one of my all time favorites. Also one of the tracks I usually use to introduce people to electronic music, as it is simply a banging remix of a song most people will recognize, and serves as a good example of what talented producers like edIT, Boreta, and Ooah are capable of.

Glitch-Hop: “Back Up Off The Floor Pt. 2 (feat. The Grouch)” by edIT

The Glitch Mob @ Valencia

Arguably one of the most talented producers of “glitch” music and a true vanguard of the genre, edIT is most known for his debut in the electronic genre with Crying Over Prose For No Reason, but not as much praise (in my opinion) is given to his second album known as Certified Air Raid Material. One of my favorite tracks from this album is edIT’s paring with the highly talented lyricist The Grouch, as the two dynamic figures create that is full of originality and an overall fun sound.

Hip-Hop: “Electric Feel (feat. Common)” by Break Science

Another fantastic example of how to properly fuse electronic production and hip-hop, we see a paring of two really talented artists in the clever wordplay of common and the distinctive sounds of Break Science. As Pretty Lights Music (the label) garners more notoriety in the electronic scene and in the music world in general, I hope we can expect to see more actual (this is just Break Science remixing Common’s track) parings of talented producers and lyricists with something to say.

Hip-Hop: “Room To Breathe” by Aer

I decided to do something a little different for this post, as I’ve always loved hip-hop music and I feel like electronic and hip-hop are merging well as of late, with a lot of great electronic vibes being shown in the production of many quality hip-hop tracks. So I decided to start a new category simply called “Hip-Hop” which will cover rap tracks that showcase this electronic production style, and have the same profound lyricism we’ve come to expect from talented hip-hop artists.
